This unique piece was thoughtfully designed to be versatile, fashionable and eye-appealing. It is suitable for men or women and is even reversible.
When I designed this necklace, I did not try to figure out which stone to use for the piece but instead designed everything to suit the stone.
The stone used for this is a blue geode slice. I’m 98% sure that the stone has been dyed blue. Regardless, it is beautiful enough that I wanted to showcase it in a settling that would allow the stone to shine through. To do this I formed a frame that leave the entire bottom half free. Either side can be used as the facing side. Once side has more sweeps and curls, while the other is simpler with purposeful angled bends.
I chose to use a larger bail woven into the pendant so it is all one piece. It is art on its own but not so large that it overwhelms the pendant. Yet, it is large enough to slide over the clasp should you ever want or need to change out the necklace.
For the necklace, I wanted a bold look that would tie everything together. To do this, I wove a Viking knit chain that is 18 inches with the clasp and 1/4 inches wide. While the chain is made from thin copper wire, it is very durable and flexible.
I did use pre-made bead caps for the ends. While I often make my own, I felt they would be too bulky for this particular chain.
The clasp is hand formed and hammered.
To add a more dramatic and finished look to the piece it has been oxidized, polished and waxed for that classic copper patina.
***if you like the pendant but feel that the necklace is the wrong length of thickness for you, please contact me before making a purchase. It will take a reasonable amount of time to weave, oxidize and polish a new necklace.
